Sweet success comes to a long-vacant space in South Portland

After operating her bakery at home in Casco since 2014, Elizabeth Roberts loves the new location of Baked With Love.

The boutique bakery is now at 345 Clark’s Pond Parkway in South Portland, near the Maine Mall.

Baked With Love makes gourmet desserts from scratch, and specializes in customized cakes and custom-designed dessert tables for weddings and events.

The bakery also offers sugar cookies, cake pops, cakesicles, whoopie pies, cheesecakes, macarons, cinnamon rolls, cupcakes, decorated cookies, cream horns, cookie dough truffles, peanut butter balls — and the list goes on.

About the bakery

Roberts began baking birthday cakes and desserts for her family. Her passion for baking came to life nearly a decade ago.

“I made my daughter’s first birthday cake, and then it morphed into bigger and crazier things each year,” said Roberts. “I really liked creating a variety of desserts and displaying them in a beautiful way.”

The bakery business took off and continued to grow each year, until Roberts realized she needed to make some changes.

In 2020, she and her husband built a commercial kitchen space next to their house and hired their first staff, but the business kept getting too big. Finally, it was time to move.

“My husband quit his job as a corrections officer at the Cumberland County Jail to work with me full-time,” said Roberts. “The business just kept getting bigger.

“It was very challenging to figure out how to manage things. We needed to make a change, plus I always wanted to open a shop where people could experience Baked With Love treats anytime.”

Roberts told Mainebiz that space in South Portland had been vacant for several years and there just needed to be a business that was a good fit. “With lots of prayer and meetings with the Point, things just started to fall into place,” she said.

Although the space was ready to move into, Roberts decided that she wanted to turn the store into a fun and welcoming space. She decorated with pastel colors and a sprinkle design for the walls, installed custom bakery cases, and turned the back space of the building into a commercial kitchen.

“Feeding people delicious desserts really makes them feel loved and that’s what I really enjoy,” said Roberts.
