TD Banknorth has chosen a new name to reflect its merger with Cherry Hill, N.J.-based Commerce Bank after having to scrap its original pick because of legal trouble.
TD Banknorth, which is owned by Toronto-based TD Bank Financial Group, will be called TD Bank, with the tagline “America’s Most Convenient Bank”, according to a press release from the company.
TD Banknorth originally said it would rebrand the merged company as TD Commerce Bank, but a federal judge in May barred the company from using that name in Massachusetts after Worcester, Mass.-based Commerce Bank & Trust filed a trademark infringement lawsuit.
