A Massachusetts bank is suing TD Banknorth in an attempt to keep the bank from changing its name to TD Commerce Bank.
Worcester-based Commerce Bank & Trust yesterday filed the suit, asking a federal judge to keep Portland-based TD Banknorth from doing business in Massachusetts as TD Commerce Bank, the Worcester Telegram & Gazette reported. TD Banknorth recently announced it would change its name to TD Commerce Bank as part of its acquisition of New Jersey-based Commerce Bank.
Commerce Bank & Trust says the similar names already have confused some customers, according to the paper.
