The County declared disaster area

The Federal Emergency Management Agency last week named Aroostook County and surrounding areas a disaster area in response to the recent severe flooding that destroyed or damaged more than 500 structures in northern Maine.

The designation will allow residents affected by the flooding to apply for federal assistance, according to a press release from Sen. Susan Collins’ office. Residents can apply for aid for temporary housing, home repairs and other related expenses, according to the Bangor Daily News.

In addition, the Finance Authority of Maine has approved two programs that will provide lower cost direct loans and loan insurance to businesses in declared disaster areas affected by the flooding, according to a press release from FAME.
