The Jackson Laboratory

2022 Goals

  • Harness the power of predictive biology for a life free of disease.
  • Relentlessly pursue new ideas and news ways of thinking, learning, and working together.
  • Expand our connections, our markets, and our science around the world.
  • Improve quality, integration, and optimization of processes, systems, and technologies across JAX.
  • Position JAX as an employer of choice, promoting an exceptional employee experience and an environment that celebrates diversity of thought and inclusion of all people.
  • Strengthen JAX’s long-term viability as a global nonprofit biomedical research institution.

Fundraising events

The Jackson Laboratory’s cutting-edge programs and research are highlighted throughout the year during free events. Join us to learn, ask questions and be inspired! All events are presented virtually with tentative options for in-person participation. Learn more, register and watch the video archive by visiting www.jax.org/RSVP.

Through the Laboratory’s flagship speaker series, JAXtaposition, JAX scientists and senior leadership host conversations about research breakthroughs in Alzheimer’s disease and aging, genetics, the microbiome and more.

All are welcome to join the Laboratory’s newest annual spring event, Women X Women, where scientists explore the unique health issues that females face such as endometriosis, infertility and breast and ovarian cancers.

During the Laboratory’s Forum for Discovery, held annually in July, leadership and faculty celebrate JAX’s greatest supporters.

Giving Opportunities

As a nonprofit biomedical research institution, The Jackson Laboratory can pursue new discoveries thanks to philanthropy. Support from donors impacts every facet of the Laboratory’s work, from research initiatives and educational programs to recruiting and retaining the brightest minds. You can make a gift to help scientists advance treatments and cures for addiction, aging, cancer, diabetes, heart disease, neurological and immune disorders, rare diseases and more. JAX accepts gifts from companies which sponsor matching gift programs for their employees and former employees. Matching gifts multiply the impact of philanthropy and help the Laboratory in its mission to improve human health.

Learn more about the different ways that you can contribute to research breakthroughs at JAX by emailing develop@jax.org, calling 1-800-474-9880 or visiting www.jax.org/give.

Volunteer Opportunities

  • High school teachers are invited to join our Teaching the Genome Generation (TtGG) program. TtGG provides curriculum and supplies for laboratory-based instruction in genomics, with a focus on applications of personalized medicine.
  • High school students are encouraged to submit a science or engineering project to the Maine State Science Fair. In partnership with Maine Mathematics and Science Alliance and Maine universities, over $1 million in scholarships are awarded. We are also seeking volunteers, with STEM expertise, to serve as judges.
  • Students interested in gaining biomedical research experience should apply for Academic Year Fellowships or the 10-week residential Summer Student Program. See www.jax.org/education.
  • Local businesses, foundations and individuals are welcome to host fundraising events to benefit JAX. Email develop@jax.org or call 1-800-474-9880 to learn more.
