The LifeFlight Foundation

2025 Goals

  • Expand access to critical care and medical transport for patients across the State of Maine.
  • Ensure we “care for the caregivers” by establishing an industry-leading support program for our crew, who provide exceptional care to some of the most acutely ill and injured people in Maine every single day.
  • Deepen our connections with our EMS and hospital partners so that our patients receive the swiftest, safest, and most advanced critical care possible.
  • Raise $7 million to purchase a new airplane to continue serving hundreds of critically ill and injured patients in Maine.
  • Work with existing corporate and nonprofit partners to expand LifeFlight’s partnerships in three key areas: recreation and tourism, lumber and logging and coastal/island communities.
  • Strengthen current donors’ connections to LifeFlight and attract more donors to support this vital service.
  • Continue to expand the Grateful Patient Program, creating an engaged community of patients and families.

Fundraising events/Opportunities

The Cross for LifeFlight, which takes place every August, is our most important fundraising event. Every mile we Cross and every dollar we raise ensures that the next person in Maine who faces a life-threatening medical emergency has access to advanced critical care with the speed of a helicopter. Participants choose where, when and how they want to “Cross” for LifeFlight, either on their own or at one of three sponsored events. In 2024, we expanded our Grateful Patient Team for LifeFlight patients and their families, as well as our LifeFlight “Crew and Company” team for staff members to support our mission. We welcome support from sponsors and offer great packages based on mutually beneficial partnerships.

Giving Opportunities

We transport one person every 3.5 hours, every day and night of the year. Everyone in Maine has a LifeFlight story. Many businesses have employees, family members or customers who have benefitted from our service. They understand and appreciate the vital role that LifeFlight plays in connecting Maine’s fragile and fragmented health care system. We have a comprehensive annual giving program and a robust memorial giving program. Our Grateful Patient Program also provides ways for former patients to ensure this service is available for the next person facing an acute medical emergency. We raise funds for capital projects, including aircraft, aviation and communication infrastructure, state-of-the-art medical equipment, and ongoing education for LifeFlight crew and our EMS partners. Our donors and supporters from the business community are essential partners to our mission.

Volunteer Opportunities

LifeFlight was created and is sustained by those it serves: the people of Maine. Each year through our Community Giving Program, we reach out to municipalities across Maine asking for their support. We invite our friends and advocates in each community to play an active role in helping us make these presentations at town and budget committee meetings. LifeFlight also carries blood on every transport, which can be lifesaving for some patients. We partner with the Red Cross to host blood drives, and we always welcome more donors and volunteers. We encourage anyone with ideas or who wants to get involved to reach out to us!
