The good: The Portland-based nonprofit Spurwink has won a $12 million U.S. Department of Education grant to support the development of a national model for high school reform. Spurwink was one of seven grant recipients at that level.
The bad: Facing multiple lawsuits, Oxford Aviation owner James Horowitz transferred the company to his personal ownership and filed for Chapter 13 bankruptcy earlier this week.
The foppish farmer: Portland-based perfumist Lisa Brodar is seeking a market for her line of farmer’s cologne, which she told the Bangor Daily News is “made for the hipster in Brooklyn who joins a CSA and wants to support local farmers.”
