Energy-efficient vehicles and recycled and biodegradable materials are just two of the practices that allowed TideSmart Global to earn certification as a B corporation, the company said this week.
“Our company mantra, ‘Healthy people. Healthy planet,’ is not a marketing slogan, but instead the founding principles that anchor our operating system, morale compass as a business entity and our truth,” TideSmart Global CEO Stephen Woods said in a news release. “And all of that perfectly aligns with the mission and practice of being a B Corporation.”

TideSmart’s sustainable practices include solar power, water reclamation, electric-car charging stations, motion-sensitive lighting and radiant heat. One of the first net-positive structures in New England, the campus generates more power than it uses, with operations offsetting 127,672 pounds of CO2, according to the company website.
Founded in 2003, the Falmouth marketing firm is an integrated group with services that include audience engagement, sponsorship activation and digital marketing.
Its B Corp practices include an energy-efficient campus and helping companies it works with implement sustainable practices into their own marketing efforts.
B Corp certification measures a company’s social and environmental performance on its workers, customers, community and the environment.
There are 17 certified B Corporations in Maine. Mainebiz will publish a list of B Corporations in the June 12 print edition. Here’s a link to last year’s list.
Back Cove Financial in Falmouth also recently earned B Corp status.
The B Corp certification process requires applicants to reach benchmarks while providing evidence of socially and environmentally responsible practices relating to energy supplies, waste and water use, staff compensation, diversity and corporate transparency.
