Sample News Group finalized its purchase of The Times Record on Tuesday night, and its first order of business was naming Chris Miles as publisher of the Brunswick paper.
Miles has for more than 15 years been a corporate officer at Pennsylvania-based Sample News Group, which also owns the Journal Tribune in Biddeford and a handful of weekly papers in the state, according to the website of industry journal Editor & Publisher.
The Finance Authority of Maine granted Sample News Group a $5 million bond to finance the purchase of The Times Record from the Niven family, who owned the paper for more than a century, according to The Times Record. Douglas M. Niven, the paper’s outgoing publisher, will remain on the newspaper’s board of directors, according to Editor & Publisher.
