Carissa Galloway, a trailblazing race announcer who has called sporting events around the world, will join the announcers’ booth in Cape Elizabeth for this year’s TD Beach to Beacon 10K this August.
Around 8,000 runners from around the world have registered for this year’s edition, which will take place on Saturday, Aug. 1.
The race starts on Route 77 near the Crescent Beach State Park entrance and ends in Fort Williams Park at the foot of Portland Head Light.
The TD Beach to Beacon 10K was founded by Olympic gold medalist and Cape Elizabeth native Joan Benoit Samuelson, and the inaugural race was held in 1998.
Galloway, who is also a registered dietitian, published author, podcaster and television host, made history as the first female announcer for runDisney. She has also lent her voice at the 2024 Olympic Marathon Team Trials and the Des Moines Marathon, along with several other notable road races and triathlons. She is a nine-time marathoner.
“It’s such an honor to be part of this iconic event, especially because race founder Joanie is such an inspiration for women achieving firsts in their fields,” Galloway said.
“Having diverse representation in sports events, whether on the road or in the announcer’s booth, is so important, and I’m excited to help bring that to the TD Beach to Beacon 10K,” she added.
Joining Galloway in the announcers’ booth will be longtime TD Beach to Beacon 10K announcers Toni Reavis and Andy Schachat.

New logo
Organizers recently unveiled a new logo for the race designed by a team from Words From the Woods, a Portland-based advertising agency.
“To honor the legacy of this beloved race, we created a new mark that prominently centers the Portland Head Light, the iconic landmark at the race’s finish line,” said Curtis Waidley, the agency’s art director and design lead on the project.
“The lighthouse is united with strong lines that symbolize the coastal roads, a runner’s bent knee in motion and the beaconing light, a call to include people of any athletic ability into the race,” he added. “Within the badge, the Dirigo star shines overhead, creating a mark that unmistakably belongs to the people of Maine.”
This year’s race beneficiary is Dirigo Reads, a Bangor-based nonprofit that promotes literacy among children across Maine.
Words From The Woods “prides ourselves on dedicating a portion of our work pipeline to Maine nonprofits, so for this special nonprofit which helps raise money for other nonprofits, being asked us to play a small part was a true honor,” said Meranne Behrends, the agency’s co-founder and CEO.
The TD Beach to Beacon 10K is managed by DSME Sports of Woburn, Mass., which is also involved in the Boston Marathon and other high-profile sporting events.
