Cooper Brothers LLC, an apple grower and wholesale apple distributor in Turner, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy this week.
The company owes its secured and unsecured creditors roughly $4 million, while its assets stand at $673,000, according to its bankruptcy filings. Its largest Maine creditors include Northeast Bank, which is owed $1.4 million; Farm Credit of Maine in Auburn, which is owed nearly $540,000; and Apple Mountain LLC in Wales, which is owed $316,000.
Two affiliated companies, Cooper Packing Inc. and K.W. Cooper & Sons LLC, a real estate and equipment holding company, filed for bankruptcy the same day. K.W. Cooper & Sons lists liabilities of $62,000, while Cooper Packing lists no assets or liabilities.
A meeting of creditors has been scheduled for July 21.
