The University of Maine has received a record $12 million bequest from a 1937 graduate.
The $12 million gift, left by Bangor native George L. Houston after he died earlier this year at the age of 91, will be used to establish a scholarship fund for undergraduate and graduate students in the university’s School of Forest Resources.
In August, UMaine announced a $6 million donation from Richard and Anne Collins of Key Largo, Fla., which at the time was the largest private gift the university system had received.
