The University of Maine at Fort Kent will host a center aimed at boosting the economies of rural towns in northern Maine.

The Center for Rural Sustainable Development was approved yesterday by the University of Maine System board of trustees, and will be a joint effort by state university campuses in Fort Kent, Presque Isle and Machias, according to the Bangor Daily News. The center will be a resource for research and information on economic development efforts in rural areas.

The trustees approved $150,000 to establish the center, the paper reported.
