An Ellsworth fisherman has been sentenced to 90 days in prison after state officials found he reported less than half of his $700,000 elver catch and $70,000 lobster catch as income in 2012.
The Maine Attorney General’s Office said in a press release Monday that 43-year-old fisherman Danny Deraps pleaded guilty Friday to underreporting his catches and income for 2012. The state attorney said Deraps is cooperating with the Maine Revenue Service and will pay his unpaid taxes in the coming months. In addition to restitution and jail time, Deraps will be prohibited from elver fishing or assisting elver fishing during the upcoming 10-week season.
