Maine’s unemployment was relatively unchanged at 8.1% in July, according to the Maine Department of Labor.
The preliminary, seasonally-adjusted rate is not significantly different from 8.0% in June or 8.2% in July 2009. The number of unemployed people was 56,200, down 1,500 from one year ago. Additionally, the state recorded 593,900 nonfarm payroll jobs in July, which is up 5,500 over the previous month. “Although there has been some job growth in 2010, the unemployment rate remains high,” Labor Commissioner Lara Fortman said in a press release.
The national unemployment rate for July was 9.5%, unchanged from June and relatively unchanged from July 2009’s rate of 9.4%.
