Unemployment review panel members named

The co-chairs of a state panel tasked with studying Maine’s unemployment benefits system have named the other members of the group. The study commission was formed by Gov. Paul LePage after accusations that he tried to influence the outcome of unemployment benefit appeal cases.

The Bangor Daily News reported co-chairs Daniel Wathen, a Maine Turnpike Authority board member and former chief justice of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court, and George Jabar II, a Kennebec County commissioner and Waterville lawyer, announced the four other members of the group Tuesday.

They are David Walck, a franchisee of several Dunkin’ Donuts stores; Shawn Anderson, COO of Cary Medical Center in Caribou; Christine Hastedt, public policy director for Maine Equal Justice Partners; and Kristin Aiello, managing attorney for the Disability Rights Center of Maine.
