Maine’s unemployment tax rates will stay the same in 2009.
The tax levied on employers to pay for the unemployment insurance system will not jump along with unemployment claims, as it has in some other states, because of a change to the tax system made a decade ago that stabilizes the unemployment tax, according to the Capitol News Service.
Employers pay according to how often they use the unemployment system. Taxes range from $58.50 to $654 per employee, the news service reported.
