Harris Hills Organic Dairy in Union has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, nearly a year after it took in cows that were rescued from a fire at a farm in Turner.
The Bangor Daily News reported that the Union farm and its owner, Caleb Harris, posted $392,178 in assets, an estimated $352,091 in company debt and $676,716 in personal debt.
The farm will disavow its lease of 180 acres of farmland owned by Illinois-based Iroquois Valley Farms and its milk contract with New Hampshire-based Stonyfield, the filing said.
