United Way of Kennebec Valley

2027 goals

United Way of Kennebec Valley (UWKV) is focused on advancing a set of clear, community-driven goals:

  • Strengthen Kennebec County by investing in 58 local nonprofit and school-based programs to expand access to essential services for the 35% of households working hard but struggling to make ends meet.
  • Achieve measurable, countywide impact by connecting individuals and families to coordinated support—reaching 29% of residents and impacting 37,451 lives in 2025.
  • Provide businesses and local people with a trusted way to give back by combining financial contributions and directing them to the areas of greatest need.
  • Deliver results through data-driven decision-making and a network of vetted local partners addressing education, health, and financial security.

Fundraising events/opportunities

United Way’s primary fundraising effort begins each fall with our annual campaign, supporting community impact initiatives across Kennebec County. Businesses can get involved through workplace campaigns, corporate gifts, event sponsorships, and participation in key fundraising initiatives.

The season begins with our August Golf Scramble, which generates the campaign’s first contributions, followed by Pacesetter businesses that “set the pace” by launching early workplace campaigns and building momentum.

A highlight of the season is the Campaign Kickoff Breakfast in September, bringing together more than 300 business and community leaders to celebrate early success and energize the months ahead. At the conclusion of the campaign, Cornerstone Businesses are recognized as the top-12 contributors, reflecting exceptional commitment to community impact.

Together, these efforts foster collaboration and drive the collective action that sustains impact year-round. To learn more about how to set up a workplace campaign, visit uwkv.org/workplace-campaigns.

Volunteer opportunities

United Way offers the VolunteerME Kennebec Valley portal, an easy way to connect community members with nonprofit organizations across central Maine. The platform allows individuals and teams to discover meaningful opportunities that align with their skills, availability, and interests.

In addition to exploring ongoing opportunities through the portal, you can get involved directly with United Way. Join our Board of Directors or one of our crucial committees to help guide our mission and investment decisions. You can also volunteer for special events like Day of Caring, where thousands of people unite for youth-focused days of service, or support one-time community projects and outreach activities throughout the year.
