United will add 2 West Coast flights from Portland Jetport

United Airlines is spreading its wings westward from the Portland International Jetport, with plans to launch non-stop flights to two California destinations this summer.

As of June 27, the Chicago-based carrier will operate weekly flights to Los Angeles and San Francisco from Maine’s largest airport.

“Today’s announcement from United is a first for the Portland Jetport,” said Paul Bradbury, the Jetport’s airport director. “This level of connectivity is truly remarkable and we are grateful for United’s continued investment in the Portland market.”

United’s two new West Coast hubs mean Portland now has nonstop flights to all seven of the airline’s U.S. hubs.

The airline will also operate Saturday service to Houston Bush Intercontinental Airport in Texas, as well as daily services to Chicago O’Hare, Denver, New York City/Newark, and Washington Dulles International Airport this summer, according to Thursday’s announcement.

“The addition of Los Angeles and San Francisco to our route network connects us with two of our top unserved markets and provides incredibly easy access to and from the West Coast during our peak tourism season,” said Zach Sundquist, the Jetport’s assistant airport director.

United Airlines Holdings Inc. (Nasdaq: UAL) is scheduled to report fourth-quarter and full-year results on Tuesday, Jan. 20, after stock markets close.

Wall Street analysts polled by Zacks Investment Research are expecting an 8.6% drop in quarterly earnings compared to the same period last year and a 4.7% jump in revenue.
