Unity Environmental University, a private liberal arts institution based in New Gloucester, is donating a 27-acre recreation area to the town of Unity, ensuring that the public space will remain open to residents.
The property, known as the Field of Dreams, includes a walking trail, athletic fields, tennis and basketball courts, a playground, picnic areas and access to Unity Pond. For several years, the park has served as a gathering place for recreation, community events and outdoor activities.
The transfer comes after the university sold its former Unity campus. University officials said more than $100,000 was invested in improvements before the transfer.
“For the past three decades, Unity has made it a priority to preserve and improve this extraordinary place so it would always be worthy of the families, athletes and visitors who enjoy it,” said Melik Peter Khoury, president and CEO of Unity Environmental University.
Field of Dreams was created in 1995 through the efforts of local philanthropist Bert Clifford and the Unity Foundation.

Unity Environmental University, formerly known as Unity College, was founded in 1965 in the Waldo County town of Unity and is now based at Pineland Farms in New Gloucester, Cumberland County.
On a list of the state’s largest colleges and universities in the 2026 Mainebiz Book of Lists, Unity ranks No. 1, with 9,463 undergraduates. Rankings were based on full-time undergraduate enrollment in fall 2025.
