Unity Environmental University, a private liberal arts institution based in New Gloucester, has signed transfer agreements with 11 community colleges in Maine and New Hampshire that will allow incoming students to apply associate’s degrees toward bachelor’s programs in environment and sustainability-related fields.
The agreements include partnerships with Central Maine Community College, Kennebec Valley Community College, Washington County Community College and York Community College.
The colleges in the Granite State encompass the seven in the Community College System of New Hampshire — NH Technical Institute, White Mountains Community College, Nashua Community College, Manchester Community College, Lakes Region Community College, Great Bay Community College and River Valley Community College.
There are three paths students can use to complete their degree: fully online bachelor’s degrees through Unity Distance Education, in-person bachelor’s at the Pineland Farms campus in New Gloucester, or through Unity Career Edge, the university’s online applied 90-credit bachelor’s degree program.
The initiative is designed to reduce credit loss and lower the cost and time required for students to complete a four-year degree.
Dr. Melik Peter Khoury, president and CEO of the university, said Unity is actively pursuing agreements with other two-year institutions across the country.
“This is what a genuine partnership between institutions looks like, one built for the learner, not around institutional convenience,” said Khoury. “The students who come to us through these agreements arrive with the momentum they’ve earned. Our commitment is to make sure nothing gets in the way of that momentum.”
