Maine’s largest public higher education system has added four new members to its governing board, including two alumni with backgrounds in business and state government and two student representatives who will serve as full voting trustees.
Christopher Gordon, Richard Rosen, Blake Shepherd and Matthew Webber participated in their first meeting this month as members of the University of Maine System Board of Trustees. Gov. Janet Mills nominated the four, who were confirmed by the Maine Senate this spring.

Gordon is president of Wynn Resorts Development and oversees the company’s global real estate development. He is a graduate of the University of Maine and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and has taught in MIT’s Center for Real Estate for three decades.

Rosen, a University of Maine finance graduate, served in the Maine Legislature from 1998 to 2012 before holding senior financial leadership roles in state government. Most recently, he was chief financial officer for Maine Maritime Academy and the Maine Community College System.
The Maine Senate also reappointed trustee Emily Cain to a second five-year term. Cain, who has served on the board since 2020, chairs its finance and strategic planning committees and is a former Maine legislator.

The two student trustees will serve two-year terms as full voting members of the board. Shepherd and Webber are both attending the University of Maine.
The University of Maine System is made up of seven universities — some with multiple campuses — located across the state, as well as a law school.
The seven universities are in Orono, Augusta, Farmington, Fort Kent, Machias, Presque Isle, Portland-Gorham.
