The University of New England will expand its online curriculum to include a certification that prepares students for careers in the cannabis industry.
Sales of adult-use cannabis totaled $246.4 million in Maine last year, according to the Maine Office of Cannabis.
The UNE program was developed in partnership with Green Flower Inc., a California-based cannabis educator.
The 16-week program will focus on specialties in cannabis cultivation, product development, retail and sales, compliance and medical cannabis.
UNE will also offer an 8-week program for a foundational cannabis associate certificate, covering cultivation, manufacturing and retail.
The programs will start on March 10.
The University of New England, led by President James Herbert, is Maine’s largest independent university, with campuses in Biddeford and Portland as well as overseas in Tangier, Morocco, and a large catalog of online courses.
With 2,082 undergraduate students enrolled in fall 2025, UNE was ranked No. 7 among Maine’s largest colleges and universities in the 2026 Mainebiz Book of Lists.
