Kevin P. McCarthy, CEO of Unum US, will step down as CEO of the Portland-based insurance company effective July 1.
The company announced the move in a press release today, saying McCarthy will keep his role as COO of parent company Unum Group until the first quarter of 2014.
Michael Q. Simonds, currently COO of Unum US, will take over this summer as CEO of that unit.
Unum Group, a $10.5 billion multinational insurer, includes subsidiaries Unum US, Colonial Life and Unum UK.
