The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development program announced today it has awarded more than $170,000 to four Maine organizations to help promote economic and business development in rural and Native American communities.
The Millinocket Area Growth and Investment Council will receive $50,000 and the University of Maine System $49,837 through the Rural Business Opportunity Grant program, which finances training and technical assistance for business development, according to a USDA press release. The Four Directions Development Corp. in Orono, a community development non-profit that serves Maine’s Native American communities, will receive $49,990 and Shiretown Riders Snowmobile Club in Farmington $23,000 through the Rural Business Enterprise Grant program.
The grants were part of $13.7 million the USDA awarded to organizations in 48 states.
