Waban

2022 Goals

Waban runs comprehensive programs throughout southern Maine, which help children and adults with developmental disabilities live the most fulfilling lives possible.

Looking forward to the remainder of 2021 and 2022, Waban will:

  • Undergo a new round of strategic planning to assess long-term goals as well as evaluate some of our most pressing challenges.
  • Continue to respond to the increasing incidence of autism in children (1 in 54) by encouraging early diagnosis and intervention in order to reduce lifetime care costs.
  • Provide enrichment opportunities in order for children and adolescents to reach their full potential. The Fraser-Ford Child Development Center provides full day, year-long special purpose therapeutic preschool and kindergarten through fourth grade programs in an inclusive environment.
  • Using specialized and up-to-date technology to enable a continuum of care as our Members age in place;
  • Increase access to the wider community for our adult members through work, recreation and skill building.
  • Increase the use of technology to augment our staff capabilities e.g. our newest venture, Tech Works, which uses technology to support members remotely.
  • Seek innovative ways to strengthen our Direct Care workforce, including enhanced training, advocacy and workplace wellness that emphasizes a holistic approach to staff support.

Fundraising Events / Opportunities

The Annual Waban Telethon is Waban’s foremost fundraising event:

  • In May of 2022, we’ll shift the focus of the previous 50 years to create a new live event, centered at our historic waterfront camp. This important fundraiser benefits Waban’s Fraser-Ford Child Development Center and its Children’s Case Management and Outpatient Services.

Every September Waban hosts its annual Golf Tournament. This year on Friday, September 24, we’ll host Waban’s 10th annual tournament.

  • Funds raised at the golf tournament support Waban’s athletes at the Maine Special Olympics.

Annual Fund Drive.

  • Proceeds benefit all Waban programs.
