The Waldoboro-based grilling and smoking woods manufacturer, Flame Grilling Products Inc., has finalized plans to open a satellite operation in Glennville, Ga., in an expansion that its co-founder says will allow it to control quality and maintain competitive in a growing marketplace.
While Georgia may seem like an unlikely expansion location for the family-owned Maine business, Kenneth Theobald, president and co-founder of Flame Grilling Products, says that the high demand for pecan and peach wood makes the southern expansion ideal — Georgia is after all, known for its pecan- and peach-growing industries.
“Obviously, pecan and peach are not native to Maine in the kinds of quantity that we need to supply our customer base,” Theobald said in a release about the expansion. “So, after researching the volume potential of these and other native varieties, a Georgia location is a perfect fit for our long-range plans.”
Flame Grilling will begin shipping orders produced at the Georgia location in June, with company officials saying that many customers have already placed orders from the expanded offering.
