The mysterious barge along Portland’s waterfront has a San Francisco look-alike that advances speculation that the structure in Maine could be a floating data center linked to search engine giant Google.
The Portland Press Herald reported that the two barges are owned by the same company, By and Large LLC, a company that a reporter for C|NET connected to Google through research on the professional networking site LinkedIn.
The Press Herald reported that the connections between the two structures and reviews by various experts have sharpened speculation that buildings could be floating data centers based on a design for which Google received a patent in 2009.
