A 16-lane candlepin bowling alley that has drawn both competitive and casual bowlers for the past 77 years will be calling it a day, as the Westbrook-based Colonial Bowling Center will be closing after a farewell tournament on May 7.
Colonial’s current owner, Kevin Sparks, told the Bangor Daily News that the decision to close the alley was difficult. Sparks told the BDN that the new owners of the property plan on putting a warehouse on the property, ending a legacy that started in 1939 when Colonial opened its doors.
