Will Dollar General find greener grass in new Knox County locale?

It looks as though the national discount retailer Dollar General has moved on from the town of Thomaston following a development plan that never took off, as the retail chain has submitted an application to build a new store six miles away in Warren.

The Bangor Daily News reported that the Scarborough-based Northeast Civil Solutions submitted an application to build a 9,100-square-foot retail location at 3100 Atlantic Highway in the Knox County town.

Dollar General had its eyes set on building a new store in Thomaston as early as January 2016, but questions arose as to whether the store would meet the aesthetic guidelines established by the town for the location, which is at the former Maine State Prison lot on Route 1/Main Street.

Thomaston Code Officer William Wasson told the BDN on Tuesday that the town hasn’t heard from Dollar General since July, when it requested to have its proposal removed from that month’s town planning board meeting.
