The owner of Seavey’s Furniture & Appliance Inc. in Windham has been ordered to pay more than $26,000 into the company’s employee retirement plan.
The Portland Press Herald reported that the order was made in U.S. District Court after Timothy Seavey was sued by the U.S. Department of Labor in December for withholding $16,015 in retirement contributions from his employees.
Seavey previously told the newspaper that the problem stemmed from another employee and that once he discovered the issue, he decided to cancel the employment retirement plan while the company was in the middle of the recession and then later he saw it was too far behind on payments.
