In the past 15 years, Midcoast Habitat for Humanity in Rockport has grown from one staffer to eight, with a pool of over 300 volunteers annually and a growing portfolio of housing developments.
As a result, the organization is looking for a bigger location.
The organization recently listed its current location, at 799 West St. in Rockport. The century-old building complex totals 5,736 square feet on 3.8 acres and houses the organization’s offices, space and storage for its construction and programs crew and ReStore, a nonprofit home-improvement store and donation center.
“Thanks to our volunteers, donors, board and the support of this generous community, we are building more affordable housing than ever as we move into 2026,” Tia Anderson, the nonprofit’s executive director, said in the latest newsletter,
The property is listed by Camden Real Estate Co. for $515,000. A sale would allow the organization to move.
The goal is to find 20,000 square feet, Anderson told Mainebiz.
Midcoast Habitat for Humanity is an affiliate of the parent organization Habitat for Humanity International. It is one of eight affiliates in Maine.
“As we continue developing pocket neighborhoods, more space will give our hard-working construction and support teams the room they need to improve efficiency and effectiveness across all we do,” she said.
Midcoast projects
Midcoast Habitat’s projects include building a 10-house subdivision in Rockport for local working families. Situated on a donated 3.8-acre parcel, Compass Point will include a mix of homes for households earning 30% to 80% of the area median income.
Each home will be energy-efficient and sold through a 0% interest or low-interest mortgage with monthly payments capped at 30% of gross monthly income. Deed restrictions and a first right to purchase by Midcoast Habitat ensure long-term affordability.
Infrastructure upgrades started in October 2025 and it’s expected that all homes will be completed and occupied by 2028.
Almost completed is the Lawn Avenue project, the redevelopment of a formerly condemned property in Rockland into two energy-efficient single-family homes. Midcoast Habitat acquired the site in early 2024, following years of vacancy and neglect.

The project replaces a hazardous structure with well-built, affordable housing that supports community revitalization and long-term stability. Both homes will serve low- to moderate-income families. Each partner family will contribute at least 250 hours of sweat equity and pay a 0% or low-interest mortgage with payments capped at 30% of their gross monthly income.
A 10-house subdivision in Thomaston is in the planning process, along with a current rehab in Thomaston.
In addition to home construction, Midcoast Habitat offers repair and weatherization services, which last year received a $200,000 grant to expand that program.
