Green Pest Defense has demolished its office at 298 U.S. Route 1 in Freeport and is replacing it with a significantly larger space — 10,200-square-feet — is under construction.
The project is being managed by Doten’s Construction, which is also based in Freeport, just up the road.
For Green Pest Defense, the expansion was overdue. The firm has expanded since it took over the previous location at the same spot, in July 2021, and needed more room for staff and storage.
“It was a very dated building, so we wanted a better work environment for our team,” owner Andrew Medlen told Mainebiz. “The new building will add individual workspaces for all office staff, a drive-in warehouse area for technicians to pull in and restock, and a training room so we can-do in-house training without renting an off-site space.”
The larger facility also increases the company’s visibility from I-295 and U.S. Route 1.
Melden said the budget for the project is $2.3 million, and he expects the building to be completed this summer.
Melden started Green Pest Defense in Auburn in 2015, and moved to Freeport in 2021. He has 26 full-time staff now and anticipates growing the team.
“Hopefully, we continue to grow at a rate of four to five new employees a year, and this office will allow us to accommodate that for the foreseeable future,” Melden said.
The project’s designer is Stephanie Lull with Portland-based SRL Architects. Turner-based Rowe & Sons handled site work.
