Women’s networking group launched in Aroostook County

A new networking group in Aroossook County aims to help businesswomen forge connections with one another and tap into professional development opportunities.

Led by volunteers, the Aroostook Women’s Network is scheduled to hold its inaugural meeting on Monday, March 23, at the Northeastland Hotel in Presque Isle.

The effort was sparked when Kiersten Purington, president and CEO of Aroostook Partnership, relocated to the region and found no existing professional women’s network with which to connect.

“When I moved to Aroostook County, I realized there weren’t many spaces for women leaders to connect, collaborate and support one another,” she said. “At the same time, I saw just how many talented, driven women are doing incredible work across the region.

“My colleagues and I started this networking group to bring those women together — to create a space where professional women can share ideas, build meaningful relationships and strengthen the leadership community here in northern Maine,” she noted.

The group is scheduled to meet on the third Wednesday of each month from September through May, rotating among locations across the County.

“Strong communities are built on strong networks,” said Johanna Johnston, executive director of Southern Aroostook Development Corp. who serves on the new organization’s steering ommittee member.

“The Aroostook Women’s Network creates opportunities for women across our region to connect, share knowledge, and support one another in business and leadership,” she added. “When more people have access to strong professional networks, it strengthens our workforce, our businesses and our entire community.”
