Woodfords Family Services

2020 Goals

This year Woodfords realized a goal to provide more services in York County. Staff, consumers and area businesses helped to cut the ribbon on a Kennebunk office in mid-June. Services provided at this location include behavioral health homes and a summer/afterschool program for children, as well as case management, residential, shared living and our day program Expeditions for adults. In October, the agency will initiate an electronic health record system to increase communication between clinical programs.

Fundraising events/Opportunities

Wordfords hosts two major fundraising events each year—an auction and a 5K. The agency’s Auction Gala is held in September in South Portland. More than 375 area business leaders, elected officials, parents and friends attend. The event features silent and live auctions, a wine raffle and dinner. Sponsorships, table and ticket sales, and donations—items, gift cards and services—are ways that businesses and donors can get involved. The Superhero 5K is held in June at Pineland Farms in New Gloucester. More than 275 people in superhero costumes complete the run. Businesses and donors can get involved by registering a team or making a donation. Registration opens January 1. Host a dress down day or other fundraiser during Autism Awareness month in April. The Red Knights, Chapter 13 Autism Awareness Motorcycle Ride takes place in June. The route changes each year but starts or ends in Albion. Like the Chapter on Facebook to learn more about the Ride.

Giving Opportunities

Many businesses have employee donation committees and accept requests for support. Please reach out if your committee would be willing to accept a request and/or would like a presentation about the programs and services Woodfords offers. Last year, 88% of Woodfords’ employees supported the agency. Consider joining us by making a gift to the agency’s annual appeal in November. Everyone enjoys a night or day out! If your business purchases tickets to sporting events, cultural attractions or has another link to community activities, please consider sharing your tickets and passes with Woodfords’ consumers and families. Consider hosting a personals drive—shampoo, razors, soap and other toiletries including feminine hygiene products for consumers in need; an children’s underpants drive for our toilet learning preschoolers; or a craft supplies drive for our therapeutic preschool classrooms.

Volunteer Opportunities

Depending on the size of your community volunteer group, as few as one or as many as 15+, we have seasonal projects where we could use help! Assist preschool teachers after school to change over their classrooms to feature new curriculum, read to students or provide another kind of learning experience such as music programming. Periodic support helping with maintenance or improvement projects. Assistance at consumer events for children such as our agency Halloween Party or providing support at monthly Respite Nights for therapeutic foster families.
