The Navy has awarded Woolwich-based construction firm Reed & Reed a $13.2 million contract for structural work on berths at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery.
According to a press release Wednesday from Sen. Susan Collins’ office, the repairs will stabilize a 1,100-foot granite retaining wall and remove approximately 1,100 feet of abandoned railroad track.
Options on the repair contract could increase its value to up to $16 million.
According to the release, the Portsmouth shipyard is one of the facilities identified as part of a maintenance backlog in the Navy’s 2012 Shipyard Business Plan. That backlog for the Portsmouth shipyard stands at $546 million according to the release.
Sen. Collins is a member of the Senate Defense Appropriations Subcommittee and a member of the Armed Services Committee.
