Wright Express is now WEX Inc.

Wright Express Corp., a $553 million fleet card company based in South Portland, has a new name. Starting today, it is WEX Inc.

Michael Dubyak, WEX Inc.’s chairman, president and CEO, announced the name change today at a press conference with the company’s 620 Maine employees in attendance.

Dubyak also unveiled a new company logo — white letters on a red field shaped like a credit card — with a precision point in the ‘e,’ which Dubyak said signifies the “sophisticated, precision payment solutions that are driving our growth and market leadership.”

Dubyak says the new name marks a new direction for the company.

“Today begins a new chapter in our company’s evolution with the launch of our new, international brand, WEX Inc.,” Dubyak said.

In addition to its 620 Maine employees, WEX has another 700 associates employed worldwide, reflecting the company’s rapid growth in the international marketplace.

“We are definitely committed to Maine,” Dubyak said. “This is our headquarters.”

Whether the headquarters for the growing company remains in South Portland, or moves to Thompson’s Point in Portland or another location, is under evaluation, Dubyak told Mainebiz.

Dubyak said there is no set timeline for a decision on the corporate headquarters’ location.
