After a national search, Yarmouth found its next town manager on the midcoast.
Audra Caler, who had been town manager in Camden and led economic development in Rockland, will start her new post on Oct. 1. Yarmouth’s Town Council made the appointment on Aug. 20.
Caler steps into a role held for two years by Scott LaFlamme and, most recently, by Nathaniel Tupper, who served as interim town manager and was LaFlamme’s predecessor. LaFlamme left to become director of the Maine Redevelopment Land Bank.
Experience
Caler served as Camden’s town manager from 2017. Her contract was set to end at the end of the year. Camden has a five-member Select Board; Jodi Hanson, finance director, is serving as interim town manager.
Prior to her role in Camden, Caler served as director of community and economic development in Rockland, where he also served as assistant city manager and acting city manager. The Bowdoin College graduate also worked in city government in Australia.
“Her professional references offered glowing praise for her strong leadership, innovative mindset, and collaborative approach. Audra’s impressive experience and skills align perfectly with our community’s current priorities and strategic needs,” David Craig, chair of the Yarmouth Town Council, said in an announcement posted by the town.
Yarmouth, which has a population of just over 9,000, has a five-member town council.
While Yarmouth does not require town managers to live there, the town said Caler plans to relocate to the area.
