York County health care center gets $1.8M injection from federal program

Nasson Health Care in Springvale has been awarded $1.8 million in federal funding to provide medical, dental and behavioral health care to over 7,000 Maine patients.

“We’re proud to use this funding to continue our work at Nasson Health Care, which plays such a critical role in the overall health of our community, especially for those who might not otherwise have access to health care,” said Carter Friend, executive director of York County Community Action, which is the conduit for the funds.

The funding was awarded through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Health Center Cluster Program, which targets the economically vulnerable, medically vulnerable and geographically isolated.

Community Health Centers operate in rural and urban areas nationwide. They provide essential access to health care for millions of Americans in need.  According to the Maine Primary Care Association, Maine has 20 Community Health Centers and over 70 service locations across the state. Maine’s Community Health Center network spans as far north as Fort Kent, as far south as North Berwick, eastward to Lubec and westward to Rangeley. The Nasson health care team also offers Monday hours in Biddeford.

“One in six Maine people receive their care from Community Health Centers — they are essential for public health and help Maine’s most vulnerable populations receive affordable health care,” said U.S. Sens. Susan Collins, R-Maine and Angus King, I-Maine, in a joint release. “With this critical funding, Nasson Health Care will be better equipped to serve the people of York County and will be able to keep providing top-of-the-line care to its patients.”
