The State Theatre was nominated by the academy for its country music programming over the past year, though the 1,900-seat venue hosts a range of national touring artists and genres from hard rock to comedians.

The winners will be celebrated during the James Beard Restaurant and Chef Awards ceremony on June 15 at the Lyric Opera of Chicago.

The awards recognize grassroots efforts advocating for important places, creative activation of underused open spaces, long-haulers who steward historic buildings and legacy businesses that serve as cornerstones of Maine’s downtowns.

Mainebiz is honored to present the 2026 Mainebiz Business Leaders of the Year. These seven individuals span various industries, including the nonprofit sector. 

This year’s honorees are a combination of relatively unknown leaders and some people who have been known in the business community for years.

Four Maine organizations have been recognized by the Maine International Trade Center for their work to increase exports, innovation and investment in the state.

Hebert Construction’s renovation of the circa 1870s Dr. Milton Wedgewood House in Lewiston is being recognized by Maine Preservation as one of its 2026 honorees for excellence in historic preservation.

The project expanded a compact lobby into the parking garage. New features include expansive windows, a covered entry and a clubroom with a kitchenette.

The gift, from the estate of the late Donald and Linda Zillman, could fund scholarships and/or building improvements. Donald Zillman was a president of UMPI and also served as dean of Maine Law.

The Central Maine Growth Council has named Matthew Boulerice its 2025 "Developer of the Year," in recognition of his decade-long commitment to rehabbing neglected properties in Waterville and beyond.
