The state's largest health care system and largest health care insurer seem to have patched up their differences, saying Wednesday afternoon that a four-month contract dispute has been settled.

The agreement comes as a contract dispute between Anthem and the state's largest health care provider, MaineHealth, continues.

After previously saying it would leave the insurer's network, Coastal Women's Healthcare announced that it has forged a new contract with Anthem Inc. Terms were not disclosed.

Through the $39.5 million settlement with 44 states, Anthem has agreed to a series of governance provisions designed to strengthen its practices going forward. Maine will also get resources for consumer protection activities through the settlement.
