The 16-square-mile site, south of Muscongus Bay, is proposed for installation of up to 12 floating wind turbines. The state’s preferred area was identified after meeting with stakeholders and is subject to further input. The federal leasing process takes years.
The moratorium responds to fishing industry concerns regarding offshore wind installations. But ironworker and manufacturing industry representatives said they support offshore wind-power development.
