Bangor Savings Bank President and CEO Bob Montgomery-Rice will retire on Aug. 31.

For the fiscal year ended March 31, the owner of Bangor Savings Bank had net income of $30.2 million, up from $12.6 million a year earlier.

When bankers talk about the skills needed to grow in the industry, they often refer to technical skills, such as the mechanics of how a loan works, and soft skills — the people skills that include interacting and communicating with customers.

In total, Bangor Savings Bank's philanthropic arm awarded $77,450 to 27 nonprofits across northern New England.

Graduates of the program will be better prepared to audition for the "Greenlight Maine" business-pitch series the following season, though participation does not guarantee selection.

A roundup of new hires, promotions and achievements at businesses, nonprofits, health care operations and professional services firms in Maine.

Participants will include the CEOs of the Maine State Chamber of Commerce and Portland Regional Chamber of Commerce, as well as the president of MEREDA and the CEO of Bangor Savings Bank.

The donations will help fund improvements to the hospital’s main campus in Bar Harbor, including an expanded emergency department, main entrance and ambulance bay.

The robberies occurred within four days of each other, at Kennebec Savings on Baxter Boulevard and Bangor Savings on Brighton Avenue. Police are still investigating and will not comment on whether the two cases are related.
