A roundup of new hires, promotions and achievements at Maine businesses, nonprofits, health care institutions and professional services firms.

Dead River Co., the largest heating fuel supplier in northern New England, has hired Jodie Griffith as its next human resources manager.

Companies and higher ed are developing partnerships through a lot of discussion around identifying gaps between businesses, incumbent staff, job-seekers and students.

In 2022 alone, Dead River’s training facility in Sanford graduated 140 technicians. Graduates can leverage the training to enhance their careers or just enter the workforce.

Although Dead River Co. has acquired Tidewater Oil, the Belfast-based company will continue to operate the same way it has for the past 17 years.

Deanna Sherman will retire as president and CEO at the end of June and be succeeded by the company's chief operating officer.

The brother and sister, whose parents sold the family business to Dead River, went to work for the company and were promoted. The suit claims the siblings misappropriated information to start their own business over the past three months.

The format is virtual but the goal is the same for this year's Maine Hire-A-Vet campaign, which is set to kick off on Tuesday and run through Dec. 24.

During the 100-day campaign, Maine employers including Tilson, Bath Iron Works and Dead River Co. hired the former military personnel for jobs throughout the state. They pay an average hourly wage of $22.78.

Bill Benson, an Army veteran and former business owner who joined Boots2Roots as program director and the group's first paid employee in June, has taken the reins as executive director.
