Depot Terraces will bring much-needed affordably priced housing to Freeport’s downtown — 45 condominiums aimed at meeting the needs of middle-income households.

Atlas Structural Systems, which has 11 production facilities in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, Canada, has opened its first facility in the states, and began production in April.

The vast majority of commercial and multifamily projects built in Maine today are constructed using prefabricated components. The practice saves substantial construction time, improves predictability and delivers a superior product.

Hebert Construction’s renovation of Lewiston’s 19th century Dr. Milton Wedgewood House was “a labor of love,” according to COO Simon Hebert.

The awards recognize grassroots efforts advocating for important places, creative activation of underused open spaces, long-haulers who steward historic buildings and legacy businesses that serve as cornerstones of Maine’s downtowns.

The Domus development team plans to break ground this spring on a 45-unit, mixed-income condominium complex, on Depot Street in downtown Freeport.

Hebert Construction’s renovation of the circa 1870s Dr. Milton Wedgewood House in Lewiston is being recognized by Maine Preservation as one of its 2026 honorees for excellence in historic preservation.

Depot Terraces is the latest development to get the green light from the Freeport Planning Board. The four-story, 45-unit condominium complex, to be built on Depot Street, got swift approval from the board last week.

Dirigo Federal Credit Union has added a branch in Scarborough, while Portland-based cPort Credit Union opened a branch in Lewiston.

Construction has begun on the Lambert Woods North apartments at 2274 Washington Ave. Extension in Portland, phase one of a large affordable housing development that will eventually include 162 apartments.
