The money goes to Gary's House, a program of Northern Light Mercy Hospital in Portland offering free accommodations for friends and family of patients receiving medical care in Greater Portland.

The number of Maine hospitals receiving high marks from U.S. News & World Report has fallen for the second year in a row. The number of high marks themselves is down too.

Three individuals and a hospital were honored by the Greater Portland Regional Chamber of Commerce for helping to ensure the region is a welcoming community for all.

The donation establishes the Patricia Davis Klingenstein Pediatric Well-Being Fund at Mercy Hospital, according to an announcement Tuesday.

The grading by the Leapfrog Group showed some Maine hospitals are succeeding in their efforts to prevent medical errors. But there's more improvement needed than in previous evaluations.

The Portland hospital has added two physicians and a nurse practitioner to the Northern Light Mercy Gastroenterology team.  

The national ranking, now in its 34th year, evaluated over 5,000 hospitals throughout the U.S. and gave high ratings to six of 39 health care facilities in Maine. 

The Bush Family Gala and Golf Classic raised more than $300,000 in this year's fundraiser.

Caitlin Sloan will be part of Northern Light Mercy Hospital's Portland campus, which has consolidated women’s health services in one location.

Northern Light Mercy Hospital received a $1.2 million donation from the Bruni family to fund the James and Hilla Bruni family-centered integrated behavioral health program.
