A group of volunteers is working to raise $150,000 to relocate and restore a Navy patrol plane that has long stood at the entrance to what is now the business and industrial park.

The money is expected to support critical infrastructure improvements, create 20 jobs, retain 120 jobs and generate $3.5 million in private investment. TechPlace opened in 2015 and now houses 35 early-stage businesses.

Levesque was instrumental in the development of Brunswick Landing, part of the transformed naval air station that closed in 2011. The Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority has named a successor.

The federal grant to the Maine Space Grant Consortium, with matching local money, will support developing a strategic plan for the Maine Spaceport Complex, just as bluShift Aerospace plans its first rocket launch on Oct. 21 in Presque Isle.

The land was returned to Brunswick Landing by Bowdoin College, which originally received it as part of a public benefit conveyance in 2007.

Since Brunswick Landing opened on the former site of the Brunswick Naval Air Station in 2011, the campus has attracted a growing number of businesses and is now poised to draw more.

The Maine Technology Institute was named the “2019 Financial Services Champion of the Year” by the Maine District Office of the U.S. Small Business Administration.
