The need for more shelter beds and transitional housing has increased in recent years. Hope House is the only low-barrier shelter north of Waterville that offers health services and low-income housing programs.
Maine has many construction projects underway, in industries from health care to tourism to renewable energy. In Trenton, the Acadia Gateway Center, a $27.7 million transit hub and welcome center, was a long time coming.
The project will remove an inefficient 20,000-square-foot maintenance complex, four temporary trailers and 11 outbuildings, and construct a new LEED Silver facility.
Nickerson & O’Day of Brewer submitted the winning bid of $27.7 million for the second phase of the Acadia Gateway Center. The first phase was completed in 2012.
Construction projects underway include the Vertical Harvest site in Westbrook, a new maintenance facility at Acadia National Park and an education and research center at Wolfe's Neck in Freeport.
