An ambulance that provides simulation training is making the rounds in rural Maine this summer, thanks to a Northern Light Health program.

The Jim and Cathy Gero Center for Genomics and Advanced Therapies will improve access to clinical trials and advanced cancer treatments.

“The impact of this emergency will be felt for years to come,” the Maine State Fire Marshall said of Friday's deadly explosion at Robbins Lumber.

Maine is “small enough yet big enough to set the example of how health care should be delivered in rural areas,” said Northern Light Health’s CEO.

Maine ranks No. 17 in the U.S. for hospital patient safety in a recent report evaluating how well facilities protect patients from medical errors, accidents, injuries and infections.

Standard & Poor's Global Ratings revised its outlook from "negative" to "stable" on Maine's second-largest multi-hospital system.

The RNs are protesting “management’s refusal” to address their concerns about safe staffing and nurse retention. EMMC said it provided the union “a very strong offer.”

“There is simply no ability for hospitals to absorb a $1.2 billion cut in 2028,” said one industry leader. A union advocate said the bill “takes a modest but important step” to address rising health care costs.

Funds will be used across the state for a range of projects from emergency room upgrades to behavioral health facilities.

Problems are being addressed by individual hospitals and hospital systems trying to figure out how to provide the right amount of services and preserve access to care without going broke.
